Proofreading – a lot more than meets the untrained eye! Qualified editors show you how to identify errors and inconsistencies in documents (or posters or menus or novels!).
Course description
We will investigate the proofreader’s place in writing and publishing and the differences between proofreading and editing. (For anyone contemplating a career in editing or proofreading the tutorswill be able to share knowledge and experience of working professionally in this area.) A good command of English grammar, spelling and punctuation required.The following is a brief outline of course content.

By the end of this course each member of the class will have:
- an understanding of the role and importance of the proofreader
- a familiarity with proofreaders’ marks
- an understanding of the terms used
- an awareness of the basic techniques and common pitfalls
- the technical knowledge to spot mistakes in their own and other people’s work .
What to bring:
- notebook, pen, pencil and eraser
- 50c/cup for tea/coffee
