Tango - Beginners

A class in traditional Tango – a gentle, intimate, exciting form of dance through which you will develop co-ordination, balance and relaxation while enjoying this very social dance. Couple and singles welcome.

What you can hope to achieve

  • learn the basics of Tango and gain an understanding, and love, for the music and movement of the Tango
  • physical benefits of dancing the Tango include that it utilises nearly all the muscles of the body and is therefore an amazing workout
  • it improves posture, co-ordination and balance, and is relaxing, thus reducing stress.
  • it is also a wonderful way to reconnect with other like-minded people in a safe, friendly, positive environment.

Prerequisites

No prior knowledge is required. The only prerequisites are

  • desire to learn Tango
  • capacity to feel
  • ability to walk

What to bring/wear

  • wear comfortable clothing; optimum hygiene
  • wear comfortable, well-fitting shoes with leather soles or a pair of socks
  • bottled water

Important information

  • you do not have to enrol with a partner, but we cannot guarantee that there will be an equal number of leaders and/or followers on any given night, so please let us know if you are not comfortable dancing with someone of the same sex.
  • children must not accompany adults to Adult Education classes
  • access to some classrooms at this venue is via a set of stairs. If this may cause you a problem, please call 6336 2802 to discuss further

Medical condition and special needs

To help us make your experience in our classes as enjoyable as possible, we may need to make some adjustments or special arrangements. If you have a medical condition, an infectious disease, a disability or special needs that may affect your ability or other participants to safely or comfortably take part in a class, please complete the Personal Fitness and Special Needs Form and return to the closest administrative centre listed on the form. If you cannot access the form online, please contact the organising centre and a copy will be mailed to you.
